— A downed tree and lines were reported at the parking lot of the Akron Children’s office on North Market Street at 7:25 a.m. Thursday. The tree was found on the property of a vacant home and the lines were just telephone lines and not a safety risk. The tree was far enough away so that people could still enter the parking lot.

— Officers were called at HEAP office on Dickey Drive at 3:31 a.m. Thursday for a man looking through the windows of the building. The elderly man said he was waiting for the office to open and was early for everything. He didn’t want to cause any problems and got back into his truck to wait until the office opened in the morning.

— A man reported at 7:30 p.m. July 26 that he wanted to call his sister for a ride to her house and he was concerned about their brother, who barricaded himself in his house on East Lincoln Way. He said they were having conflict and wanted officers to go check on him. Police arrived and the brother said everything was okay and that he barricaded the door because of the lock and said he told his bother he was going to do that. He apologized if he locked him out.

— Police responded at 5:40 p.m. July 26 to the Community Action Agency CARTS building, Jackson Street, for an alarm. All the doors and windows were secured and locked, but a garage door was unlocked. A building search was done when the key holder arrived. The building was secure.

— Police officers were called at 8:11 p.m. July25 to Smith Oil gas station, East Lincoln Way, for a man behind the store drinking alcohol by the dumpster. He was no longer there when police arrived. A worker said he took off on foot and had a walking cane. She said he had been coming in and out of the store buying alcohol and making her feel uncomfortable. She no longer wanted him back in the store. The man was found walking near the V.F.W. and police learned there was a warrant for his arrest. The man identified as Richard Short was taken into custody and transported to the county jail.

— A driver was issued a warning after no signs of impairment could be detected during a traffic stop at 1:07 a.m. July 25. Leetonia police had followed the vehicle westbound into town and said the driver was having trouble maintaining the lane. The driver reported being tired after driving for multiple hours.

— A man called police at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday regarding his no contact order, saying the woman in question keeps leaving and coming back to the pool area while he’s at football practice. He was told if she’s there, as he was told before, he has to leave.

— A representative of the Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison Solid Waste District reported at 12:55 p.m. July 24 that he’s responsible for the recycling containers beside the Dollar General and that a female called and reported an older male in a silver Ford pickup had dumped a bunch of sticks and brush in a container. Using the license plate she provided, an officer was able to make contact with the male, who apologized and advised he would go retrieve the sticks and brush.

— Police were called for an open 911 line on state Route 517 at 10:19 p.m. July 23. Officers learned juveniles accidentally dialed 911 before hanging up.

— An officer responded at 2:36 p.m. July 23 to Kendall House, state Route 154, for a female looking for housing. She said she was homeless and had a friend drop her off there. An employee said they could not take her because she needed to be referred. She was taken to the police station and a local church agreed to put her in a motel for the night.

— A man on state Route 154 at 3:31 p.m. July 22 reported his ex-girlfriend stole $180 from him through the Cash App, saying he believed he sent her $50 before, but he had not sent this money. She told police she had received a Cash App transaction from the man for $182 and she said she attempted to contact him and he just yelled at her and hung up. She said she sent the money back to him on July 22.

— An incident was under investigation at 10:52 p.m. July 20 after a driver fled a traffic stop on East Chestnut Street and Moore Street. K-9 Otis attempted to track the man, but he wasn’t found.
